VI Chemical Peel

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are used to remove the outer layers of the skin improving the appearance and function of the skin stimulating cell renewal, exfoliation of dead cells, and regeneration of dermal structures.

The VI Peel

What is a VI Peel?

The VI Precision Plus Peel is a Medium depth peel that effectively combats pigmentation at the source while also promoting rapid cell turnover for improved skin tone, texture, and clarity with minimal down time. This synergistic blend of TCA, Phenol, Retinoic acid, and Salicylic acid at lower individual concentrates allows the peel to penetrate the dermis without the destruction and longer healing time of single acid peels, giving the ability to not only address a primary concern but will also simultaneously address any secondary concerns.

This unique formulation of TCA for scar healing, collagen stimulation, and an effective level of exfoliation. Retinoic Acid is derived from vitamin A used to increase cellular turnover, inhibit melanin production, and hydrate/plumpen the epidermis. Salicylic Acid also known as beta hydroxy acid (BHA) to prevent inflammation by killing bacteria, suppressing excess sebum production, and cleaning the pore linings. Phenol, a numbing antiseptic agent, included for painless application and increased exfoliation. Hydroquinone to lighten the skin by inhibiting melanin production, Kojic Acid exfoliates the skin and improves discoloration. Ascorbic acid also known as vitamin c is a powerful brightening antioxidant included for protection against UV induced radiation and oxidation of cells that cause inflammation in the skin, and Hydrocortisone for the itching redness and general irritation associated with peeling skin. Is designed to target multiple skin conditions at once while also reducing down time.

What is a medium depth peel?

Chemical peels are classified by depth in which they penetrate the skin meaning this medium depth peel penetrates to the dermis benefiting the skin at a deeper level increasing results while also minimizing discomfort and healing time compared to deep peels.

Who is it for?

This peel is perfect for anyone of all skin types and those with melasma, sun damage, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, acne, dull, lackluster skin, fine lines and mild wrinkling.

What to consider before treatment?

Avoid exfoliating or using retinoids 5-7 days prior, no laser or waxing, no excessive sun exposure 2 weeks before and after to prevent risk of adverse reactions.

What to expect of the procedure?

This is a 45 minute procedure where we will walk you through the post care and any questions you may have then begin by cleansing and prepping the skin then we will apply the peel solution in a series of passes across the skin as we apply the peel on to the skin it is typical to experience a warm tingling sensation as it penetrates the skin. After we have applied the peel solution you will leave the peel on for 4 hours and begin post care instructions.

What is the downtime?

This is a minimal down time procedure meaning you will be able to apply makeup on day 2 after treatment keeping in mind that peeling will occur on days 3-7 and not to rub peel or pick at peeling areas in order to minimize risk of complications. Days 48 hours post treatment be sure to avoid excessive heat such as hot yoga, saunas, hot tubs, heavy cardio, etc. for 14 days avoid sun exposure for extended periods of time and be sure to wear SPF and reapply every two hours for incidental sun exposure.

How much will I peel?

Peeling results vary from patient to patient and are highly dependent on the patient's skin. If a patient that has never exfoliated before does a peel it will result in more peeling due to the amount of dead skin build up. Whereas if a patient regularly receives treatments and uses products containing acids or retinoids at home they are less likely to have a high amount of peeling, because they don't have as much built up dead skin cells. This being said, the amount of peeling does not correlate to the effectiveness of a treatment. You can have minimal peeling and still have a highly effective treatment.

When can I resume my skincare regimen?

You may resume your skin care regime on day 7 or whenever the skin has stopped peeling. At this point your esthetician will work with you on how to properly care for your skin and if not currently on a custom skin regime will prescribe one for you. In order for you to maintain best results.

When will I see the results?

Results vary from patient to patient however you may expect to see results within 7-14 days after treatment typically as soon as peeling has been completed.

How long will the results last?

Most results are not permanent because our skin continues to age. If you have lots of sun-damaged you will likely continue to see new spots come to the surface from being deeper in the skin. However you can expect 2 to 4 months at a time right from the start and can last 6 months or a little more after repeated treatments.

How often?

It is recommended to do a series of 3-4 peels 3 weeks apart, then once every 3 months to maintain results.
