What To Expect During Rhinoplasty

Your face is one of the first things people notice about you. And, right at the center, sits your nose. Under ideal circumstances, your nose sets the stage for your other features and blends in perfectly. If, however, that isn’t the case, we can create better harmony with a rhinoplasty, or nose job.

As the plastic surgeon expert Dr. Manuel A .Lopez, understands how altering one small area, such as your nose, can deliver dramatic results in your appearance.

If you’re considering a rhinoplasty, here’s a look at what you can expect before, during, and after the procedure.

Meeting expectations

The first thing we want to ensure is that we deliver the results you want. There are many objectives we can accomplish with a nose job, including:

When you sit down with us, we review your goals and discuss how we can best deliver them. You might be surprised at how just a small change, such as nostril size, can make a big difference in your overall appearance.

Your Rhinoplasty

When you arrive for your rhinoplasty, we first make you comfortable with general anesthesia. Once you’re ready, we perform the work from either inside your nose or through the small piece of tissue (columella) that divides your nostrils to avoid scarring.

Once we gain access, we work to reshape your nose according to your wishes. It’s difficult to describe here what that might entail, as each nose job is unique. But, rest assured, we explain the entire procedure beforehand.

Once we’ve finished our work, we close the incision and keep you until we’re sure everything went smoothly, at which time you can return home (please have someone drive you).

After your rhinoplasty

You can expect that your nose will be bandaged and splinted during the first week after your rhinoplasty, which helps protect the area and ensure stability.

You’ll have some swelling, which may not dissipate for several weeks, as this is your body’s way of protecting itself while it goes to work to heal the area.

You should avoid strenuous activities during this time, and we’ll check your progress regularly and give you the green light to return to normal activities when we feel you’re ready.

The key to a rhinoplasty is patience, as it may take some time for your nose to settle into its final shape, but the wait will be well worth it as your more finely balanced features emerge.

Please note that we’re with you every step of the way, monitoring you closely and providing complete aftercare instructions.
