Eyelid Lift Q & A

What is an eyelid lift?

An eyelid lift, also referred to as blepharoplasty, is a popular plastic surgery procedure that eliminates excess skin and fat around the eye area to make you look more energized, youthful, and alert. An expert plastic surgeon rejuvenates your sagging upper lids with upper blepharoplasty and eliminates bags and dark circles under your eyes with lower blepharoplasty.

What happens when I get upper blepharoplasty?

Upper blepharoplasty can be done in the comfort and safety of the Advanced Aesthetics Lopez Plastic Surgery offices under local anesthesia. Dr. Lopez makes an incision in the crease of your upper eyelid so your scar is hidden when it heals. He then removes the excess fat and skin that causes your eyelid to droop and sag.

What happens when I get lower blepharoplasty?

A lower blepharoplasty can be performed in the office with local anesthesia. Dr. Lopez can hide the incision on the inside of your lower lid or just under the lower eyelid lashline. If you have fatty bags under your eyes, these are carefully sculpted away, leaving just enough fat to look natural.

He then stretches and tightens the skin expertly, suturing it to the new position, and trim away the excess.

How long does it take to recover from an eyelift?

If you have upper blepharoplasty, you need approximately one week of downtime so that you can fully heal and recover before returning to your normal routine. If you have a lower blepharoplasty, the recovery time can be about two weeks.

Can I get lower and upper blepharoplasty at the same time?

Many women and men choose to undergo upper and lower eyelid lifts at the same time. Combining procedures gives you a more dramatic immediate improvement. Depending on your needs, you could also benefit from a brow lift or face-lift at the same time.
