How to Ensure a Natural-Looking Nose Job (rhinoplasty)

Have you lacked confidence in your appearance because your nose is too big, crooked, too long, or just isn’t right for your f

If you’ve always felt self-conscious about your nose, now may be the time to consider rhinoplasty, plastic surgery that reshapes your nose so that it’s in harmony with the rest of your facial features. You’re not the only person to want to change your nose; rhinoplasty is the third most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in the U.S.

Manuel A. Lopez, MD, FACS, board-certified facial plastic surgeon experienced in the latest advances in rhinoplasty, has improved the facial appearance of hundreds of his patients in the San Antonio area. He shapes your nose to be in symmetry with the rest of your facial features so that it’s completely natural looking. The following are tips about getting the nose you’ve always wanted.

Initial Consultation and Expectations

At the initial consultation, after reviewing your medical history, Dr. Lopez asks you how you would like your nose to look different. What is it specifically that you don’t like? Perhaps you have a bump in the middle or you feel your nostrils are too wide. Maybe your nose is too long or the tip droops. It’s important to get clarity about what you want to change and how you want your nose to look.

Dr. Lopez examines your nose and facial composition. He makes recommendations for changes to your nose so that it’s a size and shape that better matches the size of your face and highlights the symmetry of your facial features.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, as the saying goes. Dr. Lopez can use a computer simulation to show you digital pictures of your nose post-surgery, both in a profile view and a frontal view, based on your feedback and his expertise and suggested changes to your nose.

Do you like what you see? Having realistic expectations is key, and these images of what your nose can look like after surgery is an important part of understanding what the rhinoplasty can achieve.

Trust in your surgeon

Rhinoplasty is a specialized medical procedure and must be done by a highly trained and board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Lopez has been voted Top Doctor in San Antonio from S.A. Scene magazine and Super Doctor from Texas Monthly magazine. He can show you many before and after photos of his patients, and you can see both subtle and dramatic improvements in their facial appearance. You’re in safe hands with Dr. Lopez.

Prepare for surgery

You’ll need someone to come to the surgery with you and drive you home afterwards. If you work, plan for the time off so that you’re not stressed. You may or may not have a nose splint. It’s prudent to plan on at least one week of resting at home.

You’ll have several important pre- and post-op instructions for your rhinoplasty. It’s critical to follow each and every instruction to ensure proper healing. If you smoke, Dr. Lopez will urge you to quit, and you’ll need to stop smoking for at least two weeks before and after the operation at minimum.

Dr. Lopez provides a complete written list of pre- and post-op instructions. Following them helps ensure normal healing and a beautiful result.
